Like clarity coming through the fog of a dream, Lucid believes in the power of story (and myth) to inspire a clear perception of humanity’s issues and potential, through the fog of our media-managed “reality.” Whether it is film or theatre, Lucid exists to tell entertaining stories that not only explore the root cause of the world’s tensions, but which also offer insight on how those tensions can be resolved. Lucid’s main inspiration is drawn from the belief that all people would like to see a change in themselves and the world, for the better, and that therefore they are inherently good.

history of lucid

In May of 2006, Keith Wyatt along with a number of professional film, theatre and digital media artists formed Lucid Productions. Together they constitute a network of artists and industry professionals committed to telling stories that will open people’s minds to the potential reality of our rapidly changing times.

The inspiration to form Lucid Productions came after Keith had finished producing one of his own scripts through the Canadian theatre company Raven Productions. The phenomenal success of his stage play Ecstasy, adapted from the same-titled novel by No. 1 best-selling British author Irvine welsh, proved the power that performance (and story) had to reach audiences. Despite his successes in theatre he made the transition to film because of its potential to reach larger audiences.

Throughout history it has been the responsibility of artists, and their art, to clear a path for change. However, today, corporate control over mass media and entertainment has hampered the artist’s ability to be heard over the resounding white noise of the industrial complex. Most artists wishing to make a living in today’s entertainment industry can only do so by creating and presenting the sort of ÒsafeÓ mind-numbing entertainment that the Roman poet Juvenal was referring to when he spoke of Òbread and circuses

Thankfully, exceptions are beginning to arise. Certain artists and production companies are taking responsibility; using their talents, abilities and positions of power to reach people and assist in the much-needed change of mind that is currently happening in our world. It is the dream of Lucid Productions that it may join these exceptions and become a portal through which new and positive images and ideas for the future of humanity may be presented free from (management or) restriction.

It’s time to open our eyes and let the dream begin.

The Blade & The Butterfly
In futuristic Tokyo, the increasing rate of technological development has caused a reversion to older Ways. Tradition wars with Technology, in a story where a young female Cyborg and a powerful Samurai are pitted against each other in a battle that leads them both to an ancient secret and to ultimate peace.

With stunning martial arts sequences, the story is driven by the computerized pace of the machine-city, as this philosophical sci-fi examines Duality and Mastery as the root causes of the world’s tensions. The Blade & The Butterfly also explores the potential consequences of mankind’s “blind faith” in technology to prevent the world’s impending environmental crisis.

Salvia Divinorum
After surviving an attempted suicide a young woman lands a job at a late-night coffee shop, where most of the clientele have their “freaky knobs” cranked all the way to ten. There she meets a Dark Angel who guides her on a dream-like journey that ultimately shows her the value of life.

Named after a psychoactive plant grown in the mountains of southern Mexico, Salvia Divinorum is a tripped-out black comedy that reveals the power of fear, with its ability to control… and destroy. Salvia shows that sometimes the shadows in one’s life appear to be growing darker, only because the light that casts them is getting brighter.

Urbanism
A ground-breaking experiment using mono-atomic gold and a mysterious crystal-powered device turns a nameless white lab rat into a superbeing, with the power to manifest its thoughts into reality.

After a series of bizarre synchronistic events frees the rat into the mayhem of the urban sprawl, the rat must learn to control its predominant fears in order to create a more positive reality for itselfÉ and all beings.
